Ski Fields

There are 5 ski fields on the Craigieburn Range and one on the Main Divide, at the summit of Arthur's Pass.

Temple Basin is the closest field to Arthur's Pass Village, only 5 km to the North.

Porters is the closest field to Christchurch. Porters is the only commercial field, the remainder being club fields, who welcome non-members as day skiers or on ski weekends. The season is from Late June to October.

Back Country Skiing - Skiing away from the main ski fields is rough and fairly limited. The Craigieburn, Torlesse Ranges and Kellys Saddle are likely places. It is possible to ski between Broken River, Cheeseman and Craigieburn skifields by traversing the ridge line: Broken River accepts lift passes from both these fields.

Craigieburn Valley

Broken River

• Location: 44km east of Arthur's Pass on SH.73, then 6km on gravel road.

Mt Cheeseman

• Location: 45km east of Arthur's Pass on SH.73, then 8km on gravel road.
